My therapy journey with Shabnam began when I was burnt out from work. Working with her helped me see my problems with an open mind and untangle them step by step. Through the activities given in each session, I was able to recover quickly and navigate the 'thin water' at work with less anxiety and more calm. I had been trying to heal from a past trauma in my marriage which was very much affecting my relationship with my husband. Through therapy, Shabnam helped me breakdown and analyze my negative thought patterns. We then focused on reframing and changing my perspective and finding applicable solutions. I also found mindfulness, the practise of grounding, to be in the present and neutralizing my feelings very useful. In the whole process, I felt guided by a very attentive friend. I felt relieved and hopeful each time I talked to Shabnam from our very first meeting. I am able to communicate much better with my husband and face day to day problems within my marriage with an open mind. I feel content and grateful for my marriage even though it is far from perfect.

Before meeting Shabs, I felt so frustrated in my marriage. I thought it was just burnout from work that I was bringing home, but it turned out to be more than just work-related issues.

Why did I choose to trust our couple sessions with Shabs? Because during our very first online meeting, she said something that touched me deeply: “Let me help you to be friends again.”

From that moment, I saw a light. I felt I could trust her, and that she could help us get better, to reconnect and rebuild what we had lost. We had never really updated our marriage map. Shabs helped me understand how our family backgrounds, past experiences, and trauma all influence the way we respond to each other. She has done a great job supporting our relationship, and we have decided to keep Shabs as our counsellor. It is comforting to find someone who truly understands and helps you grow into a better person.

Thank you, Shabs. My mind is now at ease, and I can finally feel like myself again as a person, as a mother, and as a wife.
